I'm pretty sure you're right with the it shouldn't work, since VP don't deal with it anymore so i dunno bit of a mess there.

bought X3 TC from steam and downloaded a VP patch so it works but now it asks for a 34 character product code, the one steam provided me with is only 24.

Is there something obvious i am missing? or should i just get a refund?
