X3-Reunion to X4....what do I need to know?
So, I played a *lot* of X3 Reunion.
Several vanilla games, and culminating into a massive role play run from bankrupt assassin using sector takeover script where I was overthrowing the Boron with a firm "Shoot on sight, no matter who sees me" ruleset that made making allies even harder. I was at the point in that save where I had taken over several sectors and wiped out some Boron cap ships working my way through their space that my PC died, and I lost my save game. Unrecoverable.
I tried to get back into X3 when Terran Conflict came out, but never really did.
But the itch returns...and X4 keeps looking better and better.
So, what do I need to know? While I never finished it, I know from Terran Conflict that we can access Sol again. But I'm pretty certain there was a lot more history that happened in the game that I need should know before hopping back in, basically as a Reunion player that knows Sol contact is re-established somehow. what all have I missed before I get into the game?
Thanks!

I will move this to the x4 forum, you posted in the x rebirth universe, which is a game between x3 and x4
You can still shoot all boron on sight if your heart desires as long as you have the kingdom end expansion.

Arguably you cannot quite shoot *all* Boron on sight...

There is this one video, which - except for a few minor inaccuracies - makes a good effort of explaining the entire lore leading up to X4.
It saves you a lot of trouble piecing together stuff.
Once you're in X4, you can also find data vaults, they contain a short overview of the entire timeline. But it's not as elaborate; it does have pretty pictures though.

Huh, lore wise, a lot happened since Reunion, but a few key points, without being comprehensive (Obviously, spoilers):
Spoiler
Show
- Terrans (humans from earth) have entered the game, they fight Xenons, and are very high tech
- Terrans and Argon fight over AGI tech, war ensues
- A while ago Terrans built a huge defense ring around the entire Earth, Argons destroyed it
- Jumpgates become unstable, they shut down
- Everyone is lost, factions broke up, new ones being made in isolation, in system highways, and accelerators are being constructed (Basically X-Rebirth story)
- Jumpgates reconnect, in new configuration, but not all of them yet, new factions in turmoil, some are stable, X4 starts
- Xenons still problem, Kha'ak are annoying bugs

If you really want to get into it, browse to the install directory for X4, look in Bonus Content, then look in Encyclopedia. That will not only tell you what has gone on between X3 and X4, but also tell you what went on before X3. You can find out what happened to Saya Kho, too. You know... after you totally dumped her to go play other games, you Boron murdering.... No! I've got to keep it professional!

it is a very different experience. Accept that and the fact that you need to learn a new game. The worst thing would be setting particular expectations and feeling dissapointed.
Unlike you have been said you can shoot Borons as much as your heart desire, just be ready for the angry fish blowback
