[Feedback][7.0 beta] Fewer colours on new E ships?

Notice in Evasive Action the original Behemoth has some extra light grey metallic parts. On the E variant these don't seem to exist anymore. It still has the uncoloured grey areas but not the ones that come with the paint job. Same with the Colossus. Is this intended?

It seems that the new E ships only have one skin 'layer'. Split and Boron ships suffer from this as well and have since their release.

True but I think that's probably due to their unique ship materials (that shiny metal stuff and whatever a boron ship is made of). When the Paranid E ships were introduced they still use the same number of colours so it makes me wonder if it was on purpose here. Seems kind of weird to move away from it with only certain ships of a race.

This was partially intentional, but mostly a result of the different made mesh.
I did not have the geometry aligned in a nice clean straight line to add the grey(non coloured) surfaces, so i just resorted to the primary colour.
If you think that is really, really bad, please let me know.

It's not that it looks bad per se, but

1. it looks weird combined with their other ships.
2. it reduces the appeal of some paint mods where the alternate colour is a big part of it, like Utopia/Solset. This could arguably even include skins like Federation Pennon itself and the default colours available to players, since these change the nature of the 'bare metal' looking bits to be either bright and shiny or... I guess dark and shiny.

If it's intended that ships will be this way going ahead then maybe it will be worth changing the paint regions on older models too, and updating some of the paintworks. I mean, I'm not sure who is using something like Utopia for the blue alone—to me the white is really the selling point.

Yeah It does look quite bad. They stand out from the rest of their fleet way too much, they look like old scrap ships next to the rest of their fleet. I run Argon ships with Solset colours and it's night and day.

The paint mods look so much better on the old models.

I just love the new "colour handling" of the E ships.

Even the SCA default paint looks awesome on my Behemoth E now! :)

This will be in the next beta (3). Please let me know if this is more to your liking.

Wow. It's a massive improvement, makes paint mods look so much better! If I had to nitpick, I think the bare grey metal/greeble ratio overshot a bit in the other direction on the E versions (too much painted surface on the old ships, not quite enough on the new ones). Not sure how feasible it would be to adjust that, but it's probably fine as it is.

Would it be possible to extend the same two tone treatment to the Teladi E ships, maybe toning down the excessive rust on the front of the mushroom? The rust doesn't really mix well with paint mods visually (a large reason we paint things is so they don't rust :wink: ).

Don't you think the paintjobs on Behemoth E and Colossus E in 7.0 beta3 are ugly than before?Now they look like they were forced to wear a vest,the proporttion of gray area is too large.
If you insist on the "in line with" what is called,why not let the Odysseus E more in line with Odysseus?

Restore it or give us a choice please. maybee a new paintjob?

Had a look with their native skin and the others I have access to, and I think they match a lot better now. While there's still a higher proportion of non-coloured structure in them, they look a lot more like they belong when you see them in a fleet with the rest of their faction.

If you insist "in line with" ,Why don't change the ships of Split or Xenon or Boron or orthers?

The bottom line is that the default paint job on new E ships are ugly in Beta3 than in Beta2!they look too “fancy”!

As we can see taste is a very personal thing.
There is no way to make it optional, as its tied to the ship geometry.

Those are whole factions, though. They look different from the other factions, but their ships look like they belong together. Notice that if you put a skin on a Paranid E ship, it still has two regions, like the rest of its faction. As do Terran ships despite arriving between Split and Boron.

Whether one or two colour regions is better I don't have strong feelings about, but the ships of a faction should match.

This. If you look at the Teladi E ships (since they weren't updated yet) you can clearly see how out of place they look compared to the rest of the Teladi faction.

I do think the two tone look is significantly better, but even if I didn't, having ships look like a cohesive fleet is important.

I have added a stripe of white back to the Teladi E ships now as well.
Please have a look in the next build, if that makes them fit better to the rest of the ships.
