[7B5][UI BUG] Control keys too small to read

Post by alt3rn1ty » Fri, 10. May 24, 13:16

I'm having great difficulty reading what Control keys are, in Control settings
.
Screen Resolution 1366x768
UI Scale 1.1
.
Untitled.png
.
What is the key highlighted I wonder.
I went trying to find the key to do a long range scan (forgotten it, its been a long time since doing an LRS) ..
.. but also found I cant read half of them.

Page up.

But yeah, key labels could be a lot clearer.

Aye, even zoomed in on the screenshot I still can't make them out (can't really zoom in on a screenshot in game so thats not helpful), I can make some out which my brain somehow manages to pattern recognise Shft and Ctrl. But a lot of them I am just lost with.

@ Egosoft - While you are looking into this, could you also add "Long Range Scan" = Hold R to the list of Key controls. Its not in there, unless I am going blind I could not find it.

At that resolution and UI scale there simply aren't enough pixels. The only real solution if you can't use a screen with a higher resolution is to increase the UI scale a little more.

There are enough pixels for plaintext, which may be preferable to the stylised key. If you want it to be distinguishable from a non-modifier, you can always give it a different colour.

Well I cant go any higher than UI Scale 1.4, else things with long names start getting chopped off in things like property menus.
The following screenshot is at 1.4 UI Scale
.
Untitled.png
.
I think the key highlighted in this screenshot is HOME?, but I cant be sure.
As adeine says its just those damned pixellated/fuzzy stylised keys.
All other text is fine at the lower UI scale of 1.1

It's "Fire Secondary Weapons". IIRC it's mentioned in the long range scan tutorial that it's the secondary fire button.

Oh, right I see it.

But thats really not obvious.
Radar is not a Weapon, its a detector, same as Sonar, same as a metal detector.

And it does not say that R is for the Long Range Scan, so if you did not previously know it was for that function, how would you know what R is for.

And how do we know to Hold R, someone doing a quick press of R to test what they found in the controls (screenshot), it would not work.
And what is the stylised key underneath R, its just a blob to me.
And what does the one under the blob fire, the mouse button one .. there are 4 Secondary "Weapons" there with no hint as to what they actually initiate.

It's button 6 on your controller.

Ah, well whatever secondary "weapon" that Controller button does, I am Mouse and Keyboard only.
So for me there is potentially a Secondary weapon there (untitled so we dont know what it triggers anyway) which I cant control.

And they cant all be different buttons for the same thing, I know L is for missiles, I know R is for Long Range Scan (thanks to google and forum members), which means to me that Blob and the Side Mouse Button must also be for different things.

Those keys need defining with an explanation of what they initiate.

Actually, that's exactly what they are.

The secondary fire button initiates the long range scan when in scan mode (shift-3). It looks like you have both L and R bound (I don't know if this is default now?) but either key should work the same. I don't think I changed my settings for this specifically and this is what they look like and long range scan with L.

Thanks again adeine, you are right I have just tried all of those keys and the side mouse button, while in Long Range Scan mode, and they all do indeed send out a ping after holding it for the ideal period.
I think its quite possible at some point years ago I will have set R myself (possibly because I was used to that key from previous X Games).

Thanks for de-confusing this aged gamer :)

-----------------

@Egosoft - Fire Secondary weapon still does not make sense to me;

1. Radar is not a weapon its a detection tool. Same as Sonar or a Metal detector. In America Radar is a kitchen cooking device, we all now commonly call a Microwave oven.

2. There should be some kind of label on this key/s that says its for initiating the Long Range Scan (unless you have done the tutorial, or you previously knew it anyway via google search .. The Controls settings does not tell you which key to use for Long Range Scan).

3. There should also be mention that you need to Hold & Release this key, to make it work.

"L (Hold/release for Long Range Scan)" would be a lot better than just "L". Tells you how to use it, and more importantly what its for. Apply as necessary for all the possible keys for this function.
