Is there some way to enable saving?

I just exploded for no reason, and I've decided that I'm not going to play this game until I figure out how to save.

Is there a mod or a cheat that lets you save? Even if there was some cheat to give you money I could just buy a bunch of salvage insurance.

Anybody have a solution?

There are autosave, when you docked into the stations, to save game into the space you need to buy - Salvage Insurance.
