Just barely squeaked by! My wife suggested the last word, good for her!
Yesterday's was horrid. - I'd used up almost every letter with just one correct or so by the final guess, and couldn't think of any words for a very, very long time with the tiny pot of remaining letters.

And today's was frustrating for entirely the opposite reason. - An early success leaves nothing but guessing and crossed fingers...

“Man, my poor head is battered,” Ed said.

“That explains its unusual shape,” Styanar said, grinning openly now. “Although it does little to illuminate just why your jowls are so flaccid or why you have quite so many chins.”

“I…” Had she just called him fat? “I am just a different species, that’s all.”

“Well nature sure does have a sense of humour then,” Styanar said. “Shall we go inside? It’d not be a good idea for me to be spotted by others.”

I think this was my best attempt so far, purely through luck, though:

Is is cheating if I manually peruse a list of 5 letter words like this?

First time my usual starting word didn't give any clues at all.
Second time now.

I made a bit of a meal of that one.

On the 4th try I unintentionally forgot to use a word that used the 3rd known letter, but it helped me figure out the first letter

That was difficult. Didn't help that on the 2nd guess I didn't use a letter I identified on the first, while using one letter on the 3rd guess I eliminated on the 2nd guess already.

That was, well... I made a mistake (attempt 4) which inadvertently shone a light on the answer!

I'd say this could be a tough one.

Darn ended on an anagram. And here I was thinking the system was weighted to practically come out. (86%)

Having got the answer (in 4), I can actually work backwards to work out what your second guess was. :)

I did it in 5, however, lots of people moaning about today's word.

I don't know why, it's a perfectly good word. Some Twitter users complaining that the word isn't English (it isn't of course but is in the dictionary!)

I think using Twitter does something to your brain and not in a good way.

Had to smile, because a lot of non-UK English speaking countries were complaining about 'bloke' a week back, the most vocal were a couple of friends in Delphi.
