(Resolved) Windows 7: Please insert Original CD-Rom (Updated Drivers on Tages site)

Post by Legionnaire » Sun, 11. Jan 09, 01:49

EDIT: Find the updated Tages drivers here. Be warned, some of these may be in the beta phase. For more info read this post. Xenon_Slayer

------------------------------------------

as the title suggests as soon as i got X3:tc patched and scripted up to where it was in XP i tried running it. and i get the please insert Original DVD message pop up.

This has to be an issue with the new windows 7 beta and Tages, im dual booting with xp, Windows 7 is on a totally seperate physical drive, all other hardware in the system is the same, reboot to xp X3:TC runs as it always does. Reboot To Win 7 and the drive doesnt even try to check for disc. Ive been to Tages site and installed the x64 drivers from there, same message,

Tried running in Administrator mode same message
Win XP compatability mode same result
Vista compatability mode Same result.

Will look into emailing Tages tomorrow. and Dx Diag is in this post ;)

*coughs* BETA! I told you so! :p

I suspect you'll need to wait to see what Tages have to say - it may not be Windows 7 compatible yet.

Please insert original DVD of "X3 Terran Conflict"!

Not exactly what I expcted, especially as the others games work just fine.

You'll have to wait for TAGES to sort out support for Windows 7, but since it is a) a Beta release and b) not explicitly supported by pretty much anyone yet, it shouldn't have come as much of a surprise to you that it didn't work. Since Windows 7 is still in the very early public Beta stages I wouldn't hold your breath for a quick solution.

Edit: Merged all the Windows 7 stuff into one thread.

I'm using x64 Windows 7, and the Steam version of X3:TC works fine. I simply had to set X3TC.exe and TagesClient.exe to "Run as an administrator" in the Compatibility settings, and let Tages rerun the activation.

Edit: Never mind that edit.

Using x64 too. You should notice two things though:

Other copy protected games work (Civ4 in my case) and this beta is feature complete, so not as much beta as earlier Windows Betas.
Will mail Tages too and then use my XP dual boot to run the game.

well i got a reply from Tages, quoted Below ;)

Hello,

We do not support Windows 7 at that time for the disc version.

Kind regards,

The Tages Technical Team

so it appears definately to be the Tages drivers, which is a shame, as other things seem to run quite a bit faster, guess im stuck playing X3:TC on XP for now.

so it appears the steam version runs fine, but the disc version doesnt.

Well thats why i set it to dual boot due to it being a Beta OS.

Further Email with Tages got me this reply
We will advertise on our web site when it’s done but he update will be provided “as is”: there is no way we will ever officially support any OS that is not RTM (planned in 2010 it seems).

FYI, the Windows 7 DDK was available 08/01/2009…
so those of us trying the win 7 beta will need to keep an eye on Tages Web site to see if/when there is a new release before Win7 goes non-beta ;)

Like Windows 7 way more then vista tho just wish I didnt pay £60 for vista. (actually went back to xp  )

Windows 7 and DVD loading/Security (Tages)

Post by MattBlaK » Fri, 16. Jan 09, 14:13

Hiya,

I would just like to check if anyone else has had trouble loading X3:TC on a Windows 7 machine?

I know that I had to turn driver signing off to get my DVD drive to work under windows 7 and I wasn't sure if it was that or a Tages issue that was stopping me from loading the game.

Any Comments/questions are welcomed.

Cheers all,

Merged with the earlier thread on this subject, which in itself probably answers your question. :)

Unfortunately I am at work and my activation code is at home else I would have been able to test...
Is there a way a moderator could get it out of my profile?

Your activation code isn't in your forum profile. The only thing there is your registration code, which serves no other purpose and therefore wouldn't help you.

No its a Tages Issue, other Games on other machines that also use Tages are doing the exact same thing under Windows 7. At least i can still play X3:TC through XP been contemplating buying the steam version just to see how well it rns under win 7 because almost all my other games are running more smoothely under win 7.

Still haven't heard anything more from TAGES with regards to win 7 compatability for Drive based version of games, and there hasnt been anything put up on the site yet.

I'm kind of curious about seeing if theres a way to transfer a dvd to online activation, but i suspect that would be a permanent change.

You did only post about their response 5 days ago! They only got their hands on the stuff they needed to create a fix just over a week ago.

They've also said they won't be officially supporting it until it's released to manufacturers in the reply you quoted.

I wasn't actually expecting to have a We've sorted it type email but its every game that uses Tages as a security protection that doesnt work. Thats already going round the forums of the 7 beta. Also theres rumours starting that although the current official release date is supposedly 2010, Microsoft may be looking for a Q3/Q4 2009 release.

But as i said this is currently a RUMOUR and i have to state that again. 8)
