The docking computer is an enhancement to your normal autopilot that enables your ship to dock immediately at a station rather than flying the docking pattern.

To activate the docking computer you use the autopilot docking command (shift+d). If you activate it when your ship is within range (about 5km for most stations) you will be instantly docked at the station! If you are out of range then normal autopilot docking will commence instead.

Note: You do not need a docking computer to use the autopilot to dock at a station in the normal way.
