Commentary
A capital ship weapon made by the Boron that specializes in high shield damage. Like all ion weapons of the Boron the Ion Cannon shreds shields and has several additional debuffing effects. The high shield damage, low hull damage and high energy cost make it good for mixing with Gauss Cannon which have a low energy cost and high hull damage but poor shield damage. Similar to the Ion Shard Railgun of the Split the IC drains laser energy on impact with 10-13 being able to render even the most offensive ships unable to retaliate while 3 are enough for any M7. The Thresher M7 is able to equip both Ion Cannons and PPCs but only has the laser energy generation to support 2 firing constantly meaning 5-7 are needed to neutralize larger ships. The speed reduction is only noticeable if the target is moving directly towards an attacking ship which is retreating. The slow projectile speed makes this weapon ineffective against anything smaller than an M6.
