Functions and applications
The TS small transports primary function is the purchase, transport and sale of wares (preferably at a profit). Due to their low cost, moderate speed and decent cargobays these ships will be the most common ships in a players merchant fleet. Early on the player will probably manually order a few TS ships around to make profit but will soon want to automate them using the CLS, CAG and UT commands from the Commodity Logistics Software and Trade Command Software pieces of ship equipment. As TS ships are only lightly armed and have at most 125MJ shielding they are prone to being destroyed by any large group of fighters or M6 or heavier ships so will need to be replaced frequently. Although possible to send fight ships to escort TS ships, the energy cell costs of jumping make this impractical for long distance trading if using fighters and unlikely to reduce credit losses if encountering a military patrol of a hostile major Race if using heavier fight ships as an escort. In general the Caiman family of TS ships of the Split offer the best value for money if intending to purchase TS ships.
Due to NPC TS ships having low morale it is easy to build a large fleet quickly by attacking hostile TS ships with high fire rate weapons like PBEs (Duke's is a good source if the player does not want to befriend the pirates).
