Commentary

A fighter weapon made by the Argon and Split with the unique property of bypassing shields and doing direct hull damage. The Mass Driver does 26% less hull dps than a Particle Accelerator Cannon and 3.96 times more than an Impulse Ray Emitter. The main strength of this laser is that it immediately damages the hull of targets reducing the maximum speed of the target and starts damaging ship equipment without triggering bail checks. This weapon is popular for bail capping because it can be used to reduce the target hull to <2.5% for a +10% bail chance before using other lasers to knock down the target shield for the first bail check. Like all ammo using Lasers the Mass Driver uses very little Laser Energy making it good for M5/TM/TP/TS ships in sector where laser energy regeneration is limiting however it also suffers the same problems as other ammo using Lasers OOS where each 3/10 second round of combat chews a whole crate of ammo making them very inefficient to use OOS. The Mass Driver has a very short range meaning care must be taken when attacking with the player ship and it is advisable to not upgrade the Engine Tunings of wings using this weapon if engaging large targets to maximise the time attacking before having to circle around.
