The X-Universe in X4 is based on many inter-connected Sectors. Depending on how apart connected Sectors are, they may be in the same or different Solar Systems (AKA Cluster).
When connected Sectors are in different Systems, they are connected via Jump Gates. When connected Sectors are in the same System, they are connected by Super Highways (if close together) or Orbital Accelerators (if far apart). Visit the Piloting And Travel page for further info these connecting structures. The local area within a Sector around objects, (e.g. like ships and stations) is referred to as a Zone. As such Zones are transient and do not have specific locations illustrated on maps.
