Commentary

A capital ship weapon of the Paranid that does multiple hit splash damage. The Phased Shockwave Generator is similar to the Plasma Burst Generator in that it launches a slow moving expanding wave dealing periodic damage to any ships unfortunate enough to be caught in the cone shaped blast. The PSG can hit larger targets many times with a single shot stacking up to devastating damage and covers enough area to wipe out entire wings of smaller ships and swarms of missiles. The main problem with the PSG is that it has a tendency to cause friendly fire both to player assets and friendly NPCs (bad for reputation with those races) meaning ships equipped with Phased Shockwave Generators should be kept away from player fleets and trade lanes. The low range means ships using PSGs need to be wary of hostile ships equipped with long range weapons like the Photon Pulse Cannon and Incendiary Bomb Launcher and aim to close the gap quickly using the Turbo Booster Mk2. As the splash and multiple hit effects only apply In Sector it is recommended to only use this weapon on the player ship and accompanying ships which are kept at a distance. Due to the multiple hits caused by a shot of this weapon against larger targets it is very effective at stripping target ships of equipment. The comparatively low hull dps of this weapon means that once the shields of the target are depleted it is advisable to switch to other weapons that deal higher hull dps. This weapon is a good choice for clearing entire hostile sectors however the visuals are computationally demanding so can be prone to causing a reduction in frame rates.
