Venus is the link between Mars and Earth and, as such, sees extensive traffic from Earth-based organisations looking to move their products to Mars, and beyond towards the outskirts of the Sol system. This proximity to Earth makes the orbit of Venus an attractive location for well-connected settlers looking to earn a living by atmospheric farming and trading with Earth; this despite the harsh winds enveloping Venus posing a unique challenge to continued survival.

The planet's hostile environment fosters a particularly gruff disposition in the resident population, so it comes as little surprise that those who cannot sustain themselves through farming often join the Protectorate military.

With the second most sunlight in the Jumpgate network Venus is a sector where highly efficient solar power plants can be built, although it is often just easier to build them in Mercury instead with far greater returns. The sector sees its greatest use as a trade route with Terran wares en route to The Moon and energy being sent to the outer system.
