Commentary
A Teladi ammo consuming weapon for capital ships. Damage output wise the Gauss Cannon does the highest hull damage per second in the game but has low range and shield damage compared to Incendiary Bomb Launchers, Photon Pulse Cannons and Point Singularity Projectors. Mixing in some Ion Cannons with Gauss Cannons on compatible laser banks can be used to compensate for the comparatively low shield damage. Like all ammo using Lasers the Gauss Cannon uses very little Laser Energy making it good for M1/M7C ships in sector where laser energy regeneration is limiting however it also suffers the same problems as other ammo using Lasers OOS where each 3/10 second round of combat chews a whole crate of ammo making them very inefficient to use OOS. Each crate of Gauss Cannon Ammunition can last for 140 seconds of continual fire per laser. If the player intends to use Gauss Cannons heavily it is recommended to set up several ammo producing factories early on to reduce expenditures.
