Functions and applications
M7 Frigates are the smallest capital fight ships typically having 3-10 times the durability of an M6 but are unable to dock at most stations. This means TS/TS+ ships are used to equip and supply M7 ships unless the player owns an Equipment Dock, Player Headquarters or Corporate Headquarters. M7 ships can equip capital class weapons but lack the Laser Energy Reload Rate for sustained fire meaning they can become exhausted and vulnerable during longer confrontations unless using ammo based weapons while in sector. The laser options available for M7 ships tend to segregate them into anti fighter (like the Cerberus) and anti capital (like the Tiger) roles. The superior hangar size found on many frigates combined with infinitely superior firepower allows them to replace TMs as patrol ships. Large cargobays allow M7 ships to make liberal use of heavy missiles. The capacity to equip long range and high accuracy flak or AOE weapons facing most directions also makes them a considerable threat to all smaller fight ships. This combination of power without a loss in mobility make many M7 ships popular player ships.
